Jogo de Dentro

about

The inside game or "Jogo de Dentro" encourages players to play a more complex, close and skilful game. It is said to be one of capoeira's most challenging games.

The most skilful "Jogos de Dentro" I've had the privilege of witnessing have taken place in the Rodas in Posthumous Honour of Mestre Pastinha - undoubtedly the oldest roda dedicated to Pastinha's memory - since 1981.

Perhaps because of the historical and emotional importance of this roda; perhaps because of the musical and technical quality of the top-level mestres who have attended it since its foundation... or perhaps all of this combined has led to rare episodes in the roda. These unforgettable games are unlikely to be repeated, as they were part of a context, a moment.

However, the game between Mestres Armando and Braga - specifically the game " Apanha a Laranja no Chao Tico-Tico" or "The Money Game" - was the most striking. This kind of game takes place when the players battle over a banknote or coin that has been deliberately placed in the centre of the roda!

When I think of the rhythm of "Jogo de Dentro", that's the game that comes to mind. Unique! Irreplaceable!

These are games that are in our hearts, but fortunately they are also recorded on video >>

If you want to get to know this Roda, it takes place every year on 13 November, since Pastinha's death, in front of the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário e São Benedito dos Homens Pretos, Rua da Uruguaiana, Rio.
